We source our Lehua & Wilelaiki honey from Big Island Bees. They are a multi-generational family business which has been in operation in Hawaii since 1971. They are one of the few commercial beekeeping operations raising bees and producing honey organically. They pack and sell only honey produced from their own bees. They have a simple mission: Provide some of the world’s finest, organic, single-floral honey.
We source vanilla beans from the Hawaiian Vanilla Company. James and Teresa Reddekopp own and operate the company and have been in business since 1998. Their operation on the Hamakua Coast is the first commercial vanilla operation in the USA. The Reddekopp’s started HVC to raise their family and a business together in Paauilo Mauka on the Hamakua Coast. Their goal has always been to grow, process and manufacture incredible vanilla products to share with guests. In the beginning they worked hard to serve as an economic stimulus for a community struggling to rebound from the decline of the sugar industry. They believe that when the community thrives, markets expand and overall economic activity increases. Each supports the other.
We source turmeric from Aina Culture. It is a family business based in North Kohala, Hawaii. Founded by Anthony & Anita Palazzolo, their focus is on producing the highest quality organic foods. Fresh Turmeric root is their main crop. Through Aina Culture they enjoy the opportunity to meet people, develop community, teach, and make connections with businesses all through the U.S, while growing as individuals, a couple/family, and as a business. We source organic sugar cane alcohol from Kula Rum. The company distills organic sugar cane on an 80 acre organic farm in upcountry Maui. The distilled sugar cane is blended with deep ocean mineral water making a pure and premium spirit only available in Hawaii. It is gluten free and certified organic.
We source cinnamon from Adaptations Inc in Honaunau, HI. The company was founded by Tane and Maureen Datta on their seven acre diversified farm, which has been certified organic since the early 1980s. In addition to raising two daughters, Amber (25) and Saffron (20), they also raise cinnamon, vegetables, herbs, edible flowers, micro greens, avocados, citrus and exotic fruit. Their farm and home are solar-powered and utilize on-farm vermiculture and soil composting systems.
Oceanfire Cinnamon is organically grown on Adaptations Farm in Kona Hawaii. It is true cinnamon, now named Cinnamomum verum or True Cinnamon. It was previously called Ceylon Cinnamon or Cinnamomum zeylanicum. To make matters more confusing, most of the cinnamon sold in the United States is cassia, which is darker and has a sharper flavor. True cinnamon is considered to have a warmer, sweeter, wider profile flavor. The cinnamon is harvested from branches of the tree that are 4 to 10 years old. First the branches are cut into approximately 3 ft long logs. The outer bark is then scrapped off, removing the exposed layer. Next, the inner bark is gently pounded off. The resulting chips and strips of inner bark are then dried at low temperatures over several days until ready for milling. The cinnamon is fine ground to 70 mesh which allows its flavor to be easily released.
